Ingebrigtsen brothers and Grovdal part of a small, but strong Norwegian team

The Norwegian team for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships only counts 12 athletes. The Vikings however have two medal contenders in their team with Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the U20 race and Karoline Bjerkell Grovdal in the women’s race. Henrik and Filip Ingebrigtsen are also competing in the senior men’s race.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is by far one of the biggest European stars of the past summer of athletics. The 18 year old Norwegian completed a crazy double at the European championships by winning both European 1500m and 5.000m titles. Now the youngest of three brothers is aiming for his third consecutive U20 title. The young star remains hungry as he has already pointed out that he wants to participate in the U20 race at the European Cross Country Championships of 2019 in Lissabon. His first stop however is Tilburg, where he is joined by four Norwegian U20 athletes.

Ingebrigtsen spent the last month of training at altitude in Flagstaff in the United States with his two older brothers Henrik and Filip. They returned to their home in Sandnes last week for the last preparations towards their visit to Tilburg.

Henrik finished 11th in Samorin last year, while Filip didn’t make the start due to illness. It will be a hard task for the brothers to perform as good as their younger brother. Karoline Bjerkell Grovdal can outrun her countrymen when it comes to medals at European Cross Country Championships, as she can win her fourth consecutive medal in Tilburg. Grovdal has been winning a bronze medal every year ever since Hyères back in 2015.
